How to use this calculator
Budget for shared travel expenses and calculate a per-person figure. Change the distance multiplier to 1 for one-way travel or 2 for a return trip.
Fuel and mileage
The fuel estimate divides total driving miles by MPG, then multiplies by your fuel price. It does not assume a particular vehicle or local gas rate.
Shared versus per-person costs
Lodging, tolls and other costs are entered as trip totals. Food is estimated for each traveler on every day of the trip. The final total is divided by the number of travelers.
Consider what is missing
Add costs for attractions, rental vehicles, extra stops or other purchases in the other-expenses field. Vehicle depreciation and repairs are outside this simple trip budget.
