How to use the percentage calculator

How to calculate a percentage

Multiply the starting number by the percentage divided by 100. For example, 15% of 200 is 30.

Adding and subtracting a percentage

To increase 200 by 15%, add 30 and get 230. To decrease it by 15%, subtract 30 and get 170.

A percentage of a number versus percentage change

This tool calculates a percentage of a starting amount. To compare an old price with a new price, use our separate Percentage Change calculator.
